Development of a chitosan derivative bearing the thiadiazole moiety and evaluation of its antifungal and larvicidal efficacy

Abstract A new chitosan derivative bearing a thiadiazole compound was developed, and its antifungal larvicidal activities were investigated. The (coded here as PTDz-Cs) synthesized by the reaction between carboxylic of moiety chitosan. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H/ 13 C-NMR), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), elemental analysis, X-Ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray photoelectron (XPS) used to characterize developed derivatives. Compared chitosan, PTDz-Cs has less crystalline structure thermal stability. results revealed that exhibited potential activity against Rhizopus microspores , Mucor racemosus Lichtheimia corymbifera Syncephalastrum racemosum where inhibition zones 17.76, 20.1, 38.2, 18.3 mm, respectively. efficacy A. stephensi larvae tested, exposed LC 50 90 values (first instar) 5.432 10.398 ppm, respectively, indicating high susceptibility early instar mosquito PTDz-Cs. These emphasize this study provided could be potentially in biomedical fields.
